End of the Week

So I didn't post yesterday because I didn't have much to say. The weather has been pretty terrible, where it's been cloudy with random rain showers throughout the day. It basically means that I don't really leave the apartment to do much.

I have been playing travel agent during the week trying to nail down some trips around Australia that we want to take, which is relatively time consuming. We have finally purchased tickets to go visit Tasmania in end of January. It's very exciting!

Yesterday, I spent most of the day reading a book before I finally made it out of the house to go do the biathlon. Dave was unable to join me since he went do dinner and a comedy club through a Bain sponsored event. I ended up shaving 2 minutes off of my time! I think it's cause I was more prepared for the terible salt water and gulped some water after the run. Also, I spent about half the time in the pool on my back which allowed me to breathe easily and not require me to rest at the end of each length as much. It was exciting to finishe earlier than last time, but there weren't as many people at the race so I was still at the very end of the pack.

Recently, I haven't taken any photos since I haven't been anywhere, but I promise to post photos over the weekend since we'll be doing some stuff!

Today's fact of the day: Aussies love to shorten words. They love to shorten a word and add "y" or "ie" at the end of it. Here are some common examples:

Australians = Aussies
Breakfast = Brekkie
Sunglasses = Sunnies

I can't seem to remember any more at the moment, but I do remember hearing on TV how someone called his dad was a "Brickie" and the dad's job was to lay down bricks. So, if you ever come to Australia and here someone say something that ends in "ie/y", then it's probably a shortened version of some word.

Breckies and Sunnies are cute words. Is there one for Americans? Ameries?
