Here are some shots when we finally were able to approach downtown Sydney.
We're going to try to do the sunset ferry again and see if there is one that is better timed. Upon arriving in downtown, we headed to the Bain office to meet up with David and some of his coworkers. Here's a pic of Dave's desk that he shares with 6 other people. You can see how there's no real wall dividers except from the person across from you.
We were headed to a Noodle Night Market. There were about 20-25 stalls that were selling different kinds of noodles/dishes. There were tons of people there and they also had lion dancers performing around the streets.
It was located in Hyde Park, so we ended up sitting on the grass while eating our food. For dessert, we had some delicious dutch mini pancakes. Basically, they are these puffy mini pancakes served with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and either strawberries or bananas. Here's a pic of David and I sitting in the park in the middle of dinner.
Me, Nicole and Casey sitting in the park. Nicole and Casey are the ones who have the apartment with the amazing views. They've already sent out the invite for a New Year's eve party.
After dinner we headed to Opera Bar, which is a bar that is near the Opera House and some amazing views. Unfortunately, it's hard to capture how beautiful it looks at nighttime, but here is Dave with another coworker, Ben. They sit right next to each other in the office and started on the same day. The only major difference is that Ben is a demand transfer so his perks are ridiculous compared to ours. For example, his stipend for his rent is double than ours and he gets a grocery budget. And one of the big pluses is that he gets to fly business class and gets two paid trips home during his time here.
Sydney's strange fact of the day: The Moth Plague. Downtown Sydney has been infiltrated with moths. They are not only flying everywhere, but they cling to the buildings and since a lot of buildings have revolving doors, they have also gotten inside the buildings. It's really disgusting at night because you have a better idea of how many are flying around due to the light. Here's one of the buildings where all the moths resting on. Imagine all the pillars looking like that.
And here's a picture of them up close.
They are creepy and make my skin itchy whenever I see them. They have come down from the mountains because strong winds blew them into the city during their migration. Apparently, they have been growing the last couple of weeks and soon they will be dying all over the place. Besides the moth plague, it seems that Sydney also has a fly problem. They only really come out when it's really warm/hot, but they are super aggressive and like to rest on people. And apparently, the beetles come in Christmas time. Somehow, no one ever mentioned these bug plagues when they talk about Sydney...
